The Earth is Round interviews Ricardo Musse

In our conversation with Ricardo Musse, we know the biography of Karl Marx and discuss the content and relevance of his works as a fundamental reference for understanding capitalism. What makes an author Marxist was another topic we worked on together with Musse, as well as whether Marxism is a philosophy or a science and what is the place of dialectics in Marxism. Bearing in mind the role of Marxist culture and public debate, we discuss the current presence of intellectuals in the public sphere and what are the current channels for the dissemination of Marxist thought. We also talk about his latest book, Trajectories of European Marxism.

Ricardo Musse has a doctorate in Philosophy and a professorship in Sociology at the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo. He is the author of Émile Durkheim: social fact and division of labor, organizer of books such as Chapters of Western Marxism and Contemporary China: six interpretations, and has just launched, by the publisher Unicamp, Trajectories of European Marxism. In addition to his academic work, he is also recognized for his career in cultural journalism. He was one of the editors of Journal of Reviews and has experience as a writer for cultural supplements and notebooks for Folha de São Paulo and d 'The state of Sao Paulo. He is the coordinator of the Ensaios collection, from the publishing house Autêntica, and one of the founders of the website A Terra é Redonda, where he works as deputy editor.
