In this interview, we spoke with Douglas Barros, discussing his political and intellectual trajectory that culminated in the writing of his most recent book, What is Identitarianism? In addressing this issue, we explored the category of identity itself, especially seeking to understand why Douglas understands it as a “subjectively necessary illusion”. Seeking to understand how identitarianism became such a relevant issue for our time, we discussed how it emerged between a neoliberal worldview and the objective transformations of capitalism after the 70s. From this, we were finally able to understand how identitarianism became a paradigm of social management of neoliberalism and how we can find ways to emancipate ourselves under these conditions.
