The policy has logic and the US intervention in Venezuela exposes the imperial pretensions of the United States

Politics has its logic, which is not always clear at first glance, especially in times of radical change.

The most spectacular turnaround since the fall of Rome is underway. Anglo-Saxon supremacy, gradually imposed since the circumnavigations and bourgeois revolutions, seeks survival in the face of the upsurge, until recently implausible, of powerful challengers.

The signs of a catastrophe are announced with the display of instruments of mass destruction, the siege of Russia, the concentration of arsenals around China, the stimulated resurgence of military capacity in Germany and Japan, the attempt to naturalize the genocide in Gaza , the countless and invisible massacres of Africans, the cunning ability to manipulate the behavior of individuals, societies and States through the new media and the multiple incentives for neo-Nazi bestiality.

Washington warned Latin Americans: lose the illusions of autonomy, control over one's own wealth, integrated development, respect for human rights, overcoming racist and patriarchal values, recognition of original peoples and social life in harmony with nature: none of this interests us , the world belongs to the strong and we are the strong. Washington does not move in our interests.

Anthony Blinken, in other words, embodied the religiosity consecrated on July 4, 1776, according to which the new country would be a land of promise and, by divine mandate, had emerged to dominate the world. He also embodied Monroe's message, issued in 1823, according to which no one from overseas would enter American lands.

Full of authority, Blinken declared the elections in Venezuela closed and proclaimed Edmundo González elected. He sanctified the troublemakers in the pay of coup plotters, giving them the status of good citizens. He demanded that law enforcement not crack down on terrorist attacks.

Faced with a Venezuelan government embroiled in lengthy electoral procedures and Latin American leaders who were too cautious, not to say unaware, Washington granted itself electoral board powers in the country that is home to the largest oil reserves in the world, jutting out over the Atlantic. and the Pacific and is the gateway to the Amazon.

Anthony Blinken anointed himself as spokesman for the Venezuelan people and the “international community”. He dictated rules for “a transparent transition” of power in Venezuela. With the stroke of a pen, he sidelined negotiations with the largest Latin American countries: Brazil, Mexico and Colombia. He left three respectable Democratic leaders as irrelevant actors.

This is a direct intervention, without tweaks.

The disproportionate arrogance ends up providing services to Latin Americans: it alerts those who believe in the democratic profession of faith of the candidates to rule the world.

There is no major news in the process experienced by Venezuela. Many imagined that the fairness of the elections would be Washington's main objective. They preferred to forget the long list of interventions that, since the 19th century, made it impossible to effectively exercise sovereignty, political stability, socioeconomic development, social reforms and Latin American integration. They placed faith in the good intentions of those who believe they are accredited by God to organize life on the planet.

Latin American democrats and social reformers are faced with two options: accept the fate of a submissive colonist or reject the imperialist will. It is not a question of supporting or rejecting Nicolás Maduro or Edmundo Gonzáles. It is about defending Venezuelan sovereignty and, by extension, the sovereignty of Latin American countries, remembering that none of them can defend themselves alone.

It is not yet a question of whether or not we sympathize with government programs that affect the lives of the Venezuelan people, eternally plundered by the Empire. It is simply the right of each State to autonomously define its public policies and eradicate once and for all Washington's status as the world's sheriff and court.

Washington's oil shortage cannot be resolved through war. In fact, war disproportionately increases this need. The world order will be dignified when plundering practices are replaced by advantageous deals for interested parties. This proposition clashes with historical experience, but we cannot stop dreaming of a world of peace.

There are no bright prospects for Latin America without the formation of a great current that combines the fight against imperialism with the fight for democracy and social reforms. The integration of Latin American efforts cannot be postponed.

We do not live on an island free from planetary turmoil. We can suddenly enter the eye of the hurricane caused by the change in the world order. Washington's intentions are leading us in this direction. It is time for our subcontinent to take a decisive side against the presumption of unipolarity.

The policy has logic and the US intervention in Venezuela exposes the imperial pretensions of the United States. Washington has no right to proclaim Edmundo González president of Venezuela.

Defending the Venezuelan people and State, we will defend the people of the world.
